Your Profile

To begin you'll need to set up some personal information about yourself, such as your income tax and National Insurance rates and your annual business mileage.

We'll also need details about the price you typically pay for fuel.

If there's any information you're not sure about then just use the example data we provide - you can always go back and change the details at any time.

We won't keep any personal data you provide. Once you leave our site and close the browser window the data will be erased from our servers, but remember that your web browser may keep browsing data for a period of time and this is beyond our control.

If you leave your computer, tablet or phone for a while when using the calculator we'll wipe the data as well to help prevent someone else from seeing it (but please don't rely on that - just close your browser window and come back to us later).

Your Company Car

Next we'll ask you about the car - if you already have a company car then you should select the current equivalent model or your standard entitlement in your company car policy.

This bit is important - it will provide a benchmark for calculating whether or not to take a free private fuel. Once you've set the benchmark you can always go back to it later and see the cost and tax impact of choosing a different car.

If you haven't previously had a company car then you should still think about a benchmark model.

This is because the net value to you of free private fuel will depend on the fuel consumption rate of the selected car. If you don't know this then it's hard to make the comparison accurate and to save you money overall.

Once you've completed your profile and car selections you're ready to see the private fuel calculation results.

We'll show you;

• your annual private fuel benefit for the selected car;
• whether or not you should take free private fuel in a company car;
• if free private fuel is not worthwhile, what you should do instead; and
• if free private fuel is worthwhile, the minimum number of private miles you need to travel each tax year to keep it worthwhile.
